CL Family Feature Spotlight: North High Brewing
Over the years, there has been a surge in the popularity of craft beers and breweries. Despite this increased popularity, North High Brewing has managed to distinguish themselves by allowing their customers to try a hand at brewing beer. We talked to North High Brewing this week to learn more about this truly unique experience.
Q: What's the story behind your business, and how did you get started?
A: Gavin Meyers and Tim Ward met in graduate school at Ohio State’s Fisher College of Business, and recognized an opportunity to bring a new kind of brewery to Columbus: one that focuses on the experience of brewing. So in 2011, North High Brewing was born as Columbus’ first and only Brew on Premises, where the customer is the brewmaster. In addition to customers brewing their own beer, North High Brewing creates small-batch, high-quality craft beer that they serve in their taproom as well as on tap at dozens of area restaurants and bars.
The demand for their beer grew and in 2013 they underwent a brewery expansion taking them from one of the smallest breweries in Columbus to one of the largest. In order to help with the new production brewing facility, North High Brewing brought on Jason McKibben as Brewmaster and partner. Jason has been a professional brewer for over 15 years, including senior Brewmaster at Anheuser-Busch, and head of production at Anchor Brewing in San Francisco.
In December 2015, North High Brewing purchased a Palmer canning line to more effectively distribute throughout the state of Ohio. They are currently entering their fourth year of business and continue to grow and expand every year.
Q: What makes your products unique?
A: What makes North High Brewing’s products unique is that we don’t do one beer well, we do a variety of beers well. From our Hefeweizen to our Russian Imperial 4stout, there is consistency and great flavor profiles across the board. Beer drinkers can come into the tap room and know that we have something for everyone.
Q: What do you like about being part of the Celebrate Local family?
A: We love being part of the Celebrate Local family because well we are local! We appreciate businesses that support and give back to the community as we do.
