Book written by Colleen Miller and illustrated by Janelle Vargo.
Collene Miller, the only child of John and Marlene Gilmartin, was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio. She has lived in Huber Heights for the past 25 years with her husband, Tom. Together they have raised three wonderful children and currently have two grandchildren. Collene loved the years she spent homeschooling and believes that the things she learned while teaching her children helped her write Saving Gideon. As the homeschool journey was coming to an end, she and Tom started a small alpaca farm.
She had always dreamed of writing and publishing a children’s book. In the first year of their alpaca business, the birth of a special cria brought a story which Collene knew she had to tell. She met Janelle Vargo at a farmers market and, after seeing her work, knew that she was the right illustrator for her book. Collene’s daughter, Sara Brook, used her photography skills and worked with Collene to prepare the book for printing. It was a long and interesting journey but the dream is now a reality. Saving Gideon, an Alpaca Story was completed in November, 2014.
