CL Family Spotlight: Fallen Tree Woodshop

Pat Dolan is a lifetime woodworker who turned his hobby into a business, taking fallen trees and crafting them into something beautiful through the Fallen Tree Woodshop. Learn more about Pat and Fallen Tree in this week's Celebrate Local family spotlight!

What's the story behind your business, and how did you get started?
While I’ve been a lifelong woodworker, my business began in the end of 2015. The Fallen Tree Woodshop name comes from my preferred source material: naturally fallen trees. Over the years family and friends have given me their fallen trees from their yards, and I enjoyed making home decor gifts for them in return. I continued to experiment with new techniques and create unique pieces and all of this evolved into a business.

What makes your products unique?
I enjoy playing around in the shop and exploring new techniques, combining different woods together and creating unique shapes and patterns. My products tend to reflect this creative experimentation. For example, I created the custom engineered wood Block O design to get that official OSU Block O look.

What do you like about being part of the Celebrate Local family?
While we are new, it’s been great to be apart of Celebrate Local and a creative entrepreneur community so far. The support and encouragement from the staff has helped push my business forward. It’s pretty amazing to have work alongside so many other great local creators and get to share it with our city and beyond.
