At Celebrate Local, we're constantly amazed at our small business owners' ability to create magic out unexpected items. Patti of P39 Designs creates beautiful zipper brooches and pins out of old clothing materials for our Liberty Center store. Read on to learn more!
A: I have tried my hand at just about every craft out there. In fact, at one point I was known as "the serial student" at my local eclectic fabric shop because I took any class they offered! All those years of classes and experimenting with different mediums led to a lot of completed projects. Once I ran out of friends and family to "gift" my projects to, I took the next natural step and began selling my items at craft shows in 2010.
Q: What makes your products unique?
A: My pins are created using zipper and repurposed wool sweaters. I enjoy hunting for moth-eaten or stained old wool sweaters at the thrift store and then giving them new life after shrinking them down into wool felt. People often don't realize that the edge of the pin is a zipper, and I love that moment when they recognize the zipper. It adds a bit of subtle bling next to the matte look of the wool.
Q: What do you like about being part of the Celebrate Local family?
A: Being part of the Celebrate Local family has been a great opportunity to grow my business. Having my items at Liberty Center allows them to be seen (and purchased!) by a huge demographic of customers to which I previously wouldn't have had access. Even though there are hundreds of vendors, the staff at Celebrate Local know each one personally and I feel they have made a great effort to learn about my products in order to promote them in the best way!
